Facebook ads not getting leads? 7 things to check

By Seth Shouse · October 28, 2026 · 3 min read

You're spending money, the ads are running, and the phone isn't ringing. I hear this a lot from owners who tried Facebook ads before and gave up on them.

Usually the platform isn't the problem. One of these seven things is. Go down the list.

1. Your ad looks like an ad

Stock photos, a logo and some text over a picture of a house that isn't even in your town. People's thumbs skip right past that because they've seen it a thousand times.

Fix: Use real video of your business. Your face, your crew, your work. It stands out in the feed because it looks like the rest of the feed, not like an ad. More on that in why video ads beat stock photos.

2. There's no reason to act today

"Quality roofing, call us" is not an offer. People need a specific, easy first step.

Fix: Give them one. A free estimate, a free inspection, a first-visit special, a free consult. Something specific that's easy to say yes to.

3. You picked the wrong campaign goal

When you set up a campaign, Meta asks what you want. If you choose traffic or engagement, Meta finds people who click and like things. Those people aren't always the ones who fill out forms.

Fix: If you want leads, choose a leads goal and tell Meta what a lead is, whether that's a form submit or a booked appointment.

4. Meta can't see your results

If your website doesn't report back to Meta when someone fills out a form, Meta has no idea which ads are working. It can't get better at finding the right people.

Fix: Set up tracking with the Meta pixel and conversion events so form fills and bookings get counted. If you're using Meta's built-in lead forms, that part is handled for you.

5. Your budget is spread too thin

A small budget split across five ad sets means none of them get enough data to learn. Results stay random.

Fix: Fewer ad sets, more budget in each. I explain why in how much to spend on Facebook ads.

6. The click lands somewhere bad

This is the big one. Someone taps your ad and lands on your homepage. It's slow, it has ten menu items, and the contact form is buried at the bottom. They leave.

Fix: Send ad traffic to a landing page with one offer and one form or calendar, and make sure it loads fast on a phone. Here's the difference between a landing page and a website.

7. The leads are there, but nobody answers

Sometimes the ads are working and the leads are coming in. They're sitting in an email inbox or a Facebook notification nobody checked. By the time someone calls back the next day, they've booked someone else.

Fix: Every lead should get an instant text and email, and you should get notified on your phone. Read why speed to lead matters.

Bonus: you didn't give it enough time

If you ran ads for a week and stopped, you didn't really test anything. The first few weeks are about learning what works. That doesn't mean you should keep paying for something broken. It means judging it on a few weeks of data, not a few days.

Where to start

If I had to bet, your problem is #1, #6 or #7. Those three cause most of the "Facebook doesn't work for my business" stories I hear.
